Day 33, 34 & 35

We refuelled the boat at 6.30am and had set off for France before 7.00am.  Our first day had very good wind speeds and we progressed North very quickly, the only issue was we could not head directly to our destination in the North East.   As it has seemed mostly the case on this trip the wind was coming directly from where we wanted to go.  Through the night we were still sailing, with 2 reefs in the mainsail, as the wind had strengthened but not changed, despite the forecast suggesting a Northerly.  By the end of our first 24 hours we were  135 miles North but about 25 miles off course to the West.

Our second day was a bit frustrating with the wind still not giving us either the direction or now the strength we wanted.  111 miles run in the last 24 hours.

On day 3 we really thought we were going to have to be at sea for a third night.  We still had 72 miles to go and at 7.00am we were down to 3 knots and still going North.  At that speed it was still 24 hours to run.

However by 11.00am the wind had swung round to the North West (perfect) and strengthened to about 12 knots True and consistent.

We were able then to lay a fast course directly to La Trinite and knew if it held up we would be in before dark.  In reality we had a fantastic sail in beautiful weather and arrived at 8.00 pm.

318 miles in total.
