Day 32

First order of the day this morning was to get the radio fixed, either by us or by a professional.  We established that power was getting to the radio and therefore it was the unit that was malfunctioning rather than a fuse had blown.  By the process of eliminating one connection at a time and trying to turn on the set.  That was completely dead, we discovered the problem to lie with the extension microphone in the cockpit, which has minor corrosion causing a short circuit.

So problem solved, as we can use the set from the instrument desk on its own until the boat is back in England and Nick can get a proper repair done.

Today then became about readying the boat for tomorrow’s departure around 7am to La Trinite in France some 300 miles North of Gijon.

Gijon is a very lively town at the weekend with a great atmosphere with people enjoying themselves.  We have heard loads of groups today singing and dancing.  Most of them not drunk but rafting in the harbour or on a controlled jet ski tour.  It seems to be a normal part of their society.  In addition the town attracts a lot of young people and the odd Stag and Hen party.  But again they are enjoying themselves without going over the top.

We were also boarded again by Spanish Customs officers, very friendly and efficient.  They suggested we try the local apple cider home brew tonight.  We saw locals drinking it last night and wondered what it was, as they pour it from the bottle held at full reach above the head, to the glass in full reach as low as the same person can get.  Could be messy!

There will be no further posts until we get to France, as we are too far out at sea, if all goes to plan the blog will restart by Wednesday.
