Day 5

Our original plan was to use L’Aber Wrac’h as the jump off point for Biscay.  But due to the weather we would have been stuck there for 3 days.  It is very nice but quite small with limited facilities.

So we decided to move round to Camaret-Sur-Mer, some 40 miles South.  A bigger town with more facilities. This also takes us “round the corner” of Western France and past a tricky narrow passage called the “Le Four Channel”, as seems to be the norm on this coast this is a narrow winding route surrounded by large rocks with big tides.

It was the perfect day to sail with light winds slight sea state and sunny in the afternoon, on our approach to Camaret our angle of sail let us fly the cruising chute for the first time on this trip.  In the middle of the channel we were passed by 2 solo ocean sailors in world racing boats.  Presumably going to a race point somewhere as they had a number of people on board and were going very sedately.  But still 2 of the fastest boats in the world that have competed in the Vendee Globe Race.

The South mark of the Channel is the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint-Mathieu_Lighthouse interesting in that there is a lighthouse and a Semaphore side by side.

We departed L’Aber Wrac’h at 10.00am arrived Camaret at 18.30pm, 36 miles run.
