Day 13

A bit of a frustrating day today.  As it was a beautiful morning the plan was to go and explore a medieval town that is about a 30 minute bus ride away.  So we set off into the local town to catch the bus.  The problem came when we followed Google Maps to the bus stop, it wasn’t there.   There was a pole that might have had a bus stop on it at one time, so as the bus was every 20 minutes, we thought,  we waited.

After about 15 mins we thought we must be at the wrong place.  So we walked further towards the town, again having failed to find anything that said bus on it, Paul asked a local.  Fortunately the guy he asked could speak very good English.

He pointed us to the bus stop, still some distance away.  Once we had followed his directions we still couldn’t see a bus stop so Paul asked another passer by.  She couldn’t speak English, so we were stumped.

A car pulled up window wound down and our previous helper was driving, he added final directions and drove off.

Now we were at the bus stop the next question was which bus?  Google said the number 5 at 12.10 pm and a lady at the stop told us our bus was at 12.10 pm but not the number.  This was at 11.50 am so we waited, at 12.00 pm a bus pulled up and nearly everyone at the stop got on including the lady.

At 12.08 pm a number 7 pulled up and the remaining people got on.  Then………….nothing happened.  At about 12.20 pm we realised something was still amiss.  Google was wrong we should have got the number 7.

We eventually found a very complicated timetable and the number 5 goes to the Airport!  Worst still the next number 7 was at 14.10 pm and then it is Siesta time so buses stop until 17.00 pm.

It seems to be a theme for the weather here that it is very calm and sunny in the morning and then cloudy and windy in the afternoon.  Today was no exception, by now it was turning poor.

So we said sod it and went for a coffee then on to a different restaurant for lunch and watched the number 7 sail past at 14.10 pm.  So the same team that can navigate perfectly from Lymington to here can’t get on a bus.

Thanks Google!
