Day 16

We departed Camarinas at 6.10 am expecting a pretty rough first 3 or 4 hours  of an 8 hour passage as we left the shelter of the bay.  Until we passed Finisterre where the forecast w as for much lighter winds and flatter sea state.

Imagine our delight when we found the first 4 hours to be considerably more comfortable than the day before.  In addition the second part of the journey was fantastic.  Very flat sea, good wind and it just got hotter and hotter as the afternoon progressed.  Only real problem was the wind died away and we had to resort to engine.

In Spain you are required whilst motoring to hoist a motoring cone day shape.  This is similar to the concept of the anchor ball mentioned previously.  This time designed to let other vessels know that whilst you have the mainsail up you are motoring.  The implication being that you can travel directly upwind.

The hot weather required us to keep dumping lairs of clothes.  Starting with full cold or wet weather gear and the last run under full sale into Muros with only T shirts and sailing trousers on.

Arrived Muros around 14.30 pm, 43 miles run in 8 hours 15 minutes.

It is really striking how different the climate is South of Finisterre.
